Ker & Downey Botswana is committed to providing guests the highest quality wildlife and adventure safari experience, whilst preserving the delicate environment and natural beauty of Botswana. We constantly strive to maintain standards of excellence within the industry whilst fostering economic and social development of the local communities and Botswana as a whole.
The prestigious Ker & Downey Botswana portfolio includes: Shinde, Shinde Footsteps and Kanana – tented camps in private concessions in the Okavango Delta, as well as Okuti – an ideally situated camp within the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Dinaka broadens their collection to include the Kalahari, the perfect contrast to the Okavango Delta experience.
Shinde is nested on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta. It is an intimate, classic camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon, which simply teems with animal and birdlife. The camp’s unique main area is built in a “treehouse style” comprising of lounges, dining area and a fire deck all with beautiful views over a permanent lagoon and under the shade of ebony and mangosteen trees.
Guests can optionally upgrade to Shinde Enclave, a private main area within Shinde. Catering for a maximum of eight guests, it offers the ultimate in personal service and an indelible wilderness experience. It has a bar, lounge, dining room, mini library, outside fire deck and sun lounger area, the perfect retreat after a day’s activities. This intimate hideaway also offers guests the services of a private waiter and housekeeper as well as their own professional guide and game drive vehicle.
A hidden jewel on the Xudum River, Kanana is located in the Southwest of the Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. The nature of the habitat means it is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found within the Okavango Delta.
Okuti lies alongside the Maunachira River which flows through Xakanaxa Lagoon within the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Okuti is built amidst the wilderness of one of Botswana’s prime game viewing regions and draws its influence from water which flows in front of the camp, with its abundant birdlife, fish and sandy riverbanks. The camp remains an oasis of serenity and peacefulness.
Dinaka, an exclusive private reserve hugging the northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, host to one of the most unique bio diversities in Southern Africa. This ever-changing desert landscape gives refuge to the Kalahari lion, springbok, Oryx and brown hyena. The camp itself acquired in 2017 provides the perfect start or finish to any discerning travellers Botswana safari.
Shinde Footsteps was rebuilt and rebranded at the end of 2022, opening officially in May 2023. Nestled on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta in the Shinde Private Concession, this charming and timeless camp grants guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature. The camp retains its delicate footprint and endearing character while offering a discerning safari experience. Days are spent exploring the wilderness areas, while evenings are wound away around the fire, down on the Kalahari sand.
Guests can experience the wilderness in the most traditional way – on foot. Walking is the highlight of a ‘true’ safari experience, and no special training is required, as the focus is on exploration and discovery – tracking fresh spoor each morning to reveal the previous night’s events makes it a memorable and immersive safari adventure. Guests gain an in-depth knowledge of the incredible way wildlife and habitat interact. For guests seeking to do a more focused and immersive walking experience, a skilled and highly qualified walking safari guide can accompany them throughout their safari.
The Young Explorers Program hosted by a Specialist Family Guide is offered at all our camps. This specially designed programme encourages families to discover the wonders of the African Wilderness together. The emphasis is on providing the family with engaging, age-appropriate activities on a flexible schedule whilst creating shared family memories to last a lifetime.
