Moving Between Camps

Movement between camps is generally by light aircraft due to the remote areas visited and distances travelled. Ker & Downey operate a fleet of Cessna Caravan, 206 and 207 aircraft as well as Airvans through Safari Air. These are ideal bush airplanes, able to land and take off using the short airstrips found on the delta islands. Our pilots are experienced in this terrain and you will enjoy some memorable flights across the delta's myriad of waterways, often with aerial game viewing on the way - so be sure to bring your camera in your hand luggage. All flights are conducted with safety as the first priority, within strict regulations of operation and with respect for wildlife and the delicate eco-system of the delta - your pilot will ensure your flight is as smooth, scenic and punctual as possible, within the prevailing conditions. Flights vary from a short 'hop' between delta camps of twenty minutes through to the longer flights to Kasane or the Kalahari averaging one and a half hours. It is possible that you will pick up other passengers en-route depending on Safari Air's schedule of the day, the pilot will advise you of your routing before you fly.

The other mode of transport used on selected routes is by road. Ker & Downey Botswana offer road transfers between Maun and Edo's Camp as well as between Victoria Falls or Livingstone and Kasane. Transfers are provided in closed, generally air-conditioned vehicles and refreshments will be offered on the longer transfers, enquire on booking for distances and times expected. Ker & Downey Botswana use only reputable, professional operators for their road transfers, with safety, comfort and punctuality being the prime considerations.

Whilst all care is taken to ensure transfers are as per schedule, it is possible that delays can occur for external reasons including international flight delays, lost luggage, client punctuality and weather. Ker & Downey Botswana Maun based office reconfirms all transfers and assists as required in any delays.

PLEASE NOTE that on all light aircraft transfers each passenger is limited to one soft sided bag (soft duffel type bags are ideal), weighing no more than 20kg plus a typical sized camera bag/hand luggage. This is for logistical and safety reasons. The luggage pod is only 70 x 25cm so your bags need to fit within, or may be left behind. As there is a laundry service in all Ker & Downey Botswana camps it is possible to keep clothing to a minimum. Excess baggage be may subject to additional baggage/charter charges and please note it is optional to store your excess baggage in our Maun office at no extra charge until the end of your safari (this option is only available if your safari starts and ends in Maun, otherwise alternate arrangements will need to be made).
